Life in a Day is a fantastic exercise in the potential of the internet to take old ideas and make them spectacular and huge. Everyone has clung to to idea of each individual in the world taking a photo at the same time. It is not an old idea. Earth Hour is a great example.
But sharing that action, collaborating and bringing it together in a way the world can also experience is a much harder proposition - YouTube has teamed up with Scott Free productions and director Kevin McDonald to try and get everyone in the world to create a short film about their day which can be uploaded to YouTube and used to make a film. It is literally something only YouTube could do - it feels like we are trying to take a picture of humanity, like an image of Earth from space, but using a flipcam. It is very exciting.

YouTube Play is a collaborative initiative created by YouTube and the Guggenheim Museum to discover and showcase exceptional talent working in the ever-expanding realm of creative video.

A collaboration with HP, YouTube Play is a search for the most creative videos in the world, which will culminate on October 21, 2010, in a presentation in (and on) the Guggenheim Museum in New York, and throughout the Guggenheim network of museums in Bilbao, Venice and Berlin. From the moment we first met with the Guggenheim, their vision for the future of access, appetite for global distribution, and radical inclusiveness mapped perfectly onto ours.

A simple ask to all you creatives - please share this program with everyone you know who has an interest in art, video, creativity - or all three - so that we can embark on the next phase of receiving the brilliant submissions from which the final shortlist will be drawn. We, and the Guggenheim, are extremely excited to see what rolls in.

It's called the CCB (consumer commerce barometer) - but really it should be called EPD (every planner's dream) as it lets you analyse online research affecting the buying habits of internet users using data and then visualises that data in a pretty graph which you can personalise, save as data or embed using the charts api. Dreamy.

It's very cool, especially if you're into the buying habits of internet users... and who isn't!?

WOW! 1 : Tom Uglow Creative Lead Google & YouTube Europe from Three Drunk Monkeys on Vimeo.

this is a talk Tom gave at at Three Drunk Monkeys a Sydney-based creative agency.
It was an informal presentation within the agency about Google, the Creative Lab and inspiration.
Amongst other things the endless opportunities that digital provides for new ideas - but also a rough idea about what Tom actually does for a living.

This is a presentation I prepared for The Future of Advertising in One Afternoon : a Contagious / APA / IPA event at BAFTA in February. It's basically a lot of interesting things to do with video online...

At the launch of the election campaign, we asked YouTube and Facebook users to submit questions for the UK's first election Digital Debate. The response was amazing - over 5000 questions submitted and more than 180,000 votes on the questions. The main leaders then got to respond.

We worked on the Google Moderator integration into YouTube, the channel creative, and the call out videos.
Great response - including a full BBC piece on it: http://bit.ly/bW1Pbv+

I love the music for this video.
It's Fats Waller's (Do You Intend to Put an End to) A Sweet Beginning? and it's beautiful.
The video's pretty cool as well.
We worked with BBH New York on this. (to be honest they did most of the work)

The Middle East and North Africa team worked with us on this initiative to introduce the internet in a simple way to new users.

http://www.google.com/ahlan has the first of several new educational videos and other interactive sections for our users in the coming weeks.

We were lucky enough to work on this (our first Google April Fool) with Sara Rowghani and Reto Meier (who actually built the app). The video was shot by Glue in conjunction with the in-house team (scripting and editing).
The scripts, translations, designs, and copy were created in-house over a few weeks.
The video had over a million views and over 50k app downloads .
