what I do/graphic design

// print design

Most of my portfolio involves graphic design for print. My training was in print and my background in magazines and marketing .

I'm used to managing creative projects from initial brief to concept through to delivery and being very hands-on, either designing or overseeing a team of designers to effectively deliver design solutions to strict deadlines.

There is a lot written about graphic design. People take it very personally.
I consider design a service - the client wants the content to be read and remembered; an idea expressed; a brand sold. Oddly an idea might be best communicated by making the text illegible, or by making it very academic, or fresh, or gritty. It is a designers role to make it fit for purpose. In a way it is like fixing computers; it needs to work, and if it works beautifully then so much the better.

Design is a functional, temporary thing. Whilst it aspires to (and achieves) artistic standing, much of it is about consistency, standards and communication. It is not an abstract, it shouldn't be precious and 99.9% is tomorrows recycling (or if it isn't it should be).
